The Washington Commanders fell to the Chicago Bears in primetime, losing 40-20.
This was a game that the Commanders were expected to win handily.
The Bears hadn’t won a game since the 2022 season and were on a 14-game losing streak.
Unfortunately for the Commanders, they were unable to capitalize against the Bears, losing in blowout fashion.
After the game, Ron Rivera provided a few comments in a postgame interview, highlighting his thoughts on team performance.
According to Rivera via reporter Matthew Paras, he said the Commanders had a “slow start,” adding, “It starts at the top.”
Ron Rivera: “A slow start first and foremost. … It’s something we have to take a long look at. … It starts at the top. That’s on me.”

The Bears got out to a commanding 27-3 lead at halftime, a lead that ended up being insurmountable for the Commanders.
While they did technically win the second half, outscoring the Bears, it simply wasn’t enough.
Rivera appears to place a lot of blame for the loss on himself, understanding that their game plan didn’t work as anticipated.
The Commander’s defense allowed Justin Fields to pick them apart, mostly by utilizing D.J. Moore in a big way.
After this disappointing loss, the Commanders head into Week 6 with a 2-3 record.
A win against the Bears would have put them over .500, a great metric heading into the latter two-thirds of the season.
They now find themselves at a deficit and will have to claw their way back into the win column for the rest of the year.
Can this Rivera-led roster find a way to contend in the NFC?
He was on the hot seat during the offseason, and this loss might have warmed his chair a bit more.
