This year’s NFL free agency period featured a plethora of talent at the running back position.
The likes of D’Andre Swift, Josh Jacobs, Austin Ekeler, Tony Pollard, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley were all up for grabs, with Aaron Jones following them and Joe Mixon also getting moved.
The Ravens made a huge splash with Henry, signing him to a two-year deal with $16 million that could reach $20 million with some incentives.
That was a great value for a two-time NFL rushing leader and four-time Pro Bowler, not to mention the most physically imposing back in the league.
Moreover, that also made NFL analyst Craig Carton believe that the Philadelphia Eagles vastly overpaid for Saquon Barkley’s services.
Talking on The Carton Show, he argued that the Eagles overpaid ’embarrassingly’ just to lure Barkley away from a divisional rival, as they clearly could’ve gotten him or anybody else for much less.
“The Eagles overpaid for Saquon Barkley in an embarrassing fashion,” Carton said.

He congratulated Barkley on the deal and stated that he’s obviously a great player, but he still thinks he got too much.
Barkley signed a three-year deal worth $37.5 million with $26 million guaranteed, which is a lot if you take his injury-proneness into consideration.
Of course, he’s more than capable of living up to that kind of money with his talent and impact, and he’s also a great locker-room guy.
Still, it seems like the Eagles, who rarely spend big bucks on running backs, could’ve gotten someone almost as impactful as him for less money and used the spare cash to fix their defense.
