When the Chicago Bears decided to make wide receiver Chase Claypool a healthy scratch before their Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos, everyone knew something was up.
It became clear that Claypool’s time with the Bears had quickly reached the end less than a year after he was acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2023 second-round draft pick.
On Friday, Chicago officially ended their relationship with the young wide receiver when they decided to trade him to the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Dolphins announced they have agreed to terms on a trade with the Chicago Bears for WR Chase Claypool and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick, pending a physical.

In order to complete the deal, the Bears also sent a 2025 seventh-round draft selection in addition to Claypool to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick.
Basically, Chicago just wanted to get rid of the wide receiver, and they were okay with a less-than-thrilling return package in order to just get him out of the building.
Miami acquiring Claypool is certainly interesting, especially considering how much offensive firepower the Dolphins already have on their current roster.
However, giving up a Day 3 draft pick from 2025 in order to acquire the 25-year-old receiver is an extremely low-risk move, and it’s clearly one that Miami was willing to take.
If the 6-foot-4, 238-pound Claypool can regain the form that he displayed out on the field during his tenure with the Steelers, then the Dolphins could have just potentially landed a major steal.
At the same time, if he doesn’t end up finding a fit on Miami’s roster like he was unable to do in Chicago, then the Dolphins can just move on from him without feeling like they are giving up on a major asset.
