The results of Gerrit Cole’s MRI on his right elbow were, for the lack of a better word, inconclusive.
Multiple doctors took a look at the images and aren’t quite sure if the ulnar collateral ligament is intact.
The aftermath of the MRI is the New York Yankees ace missing 1-2 months of action and him being sent to Dr. Neal ElAttrache to get a clearer path towards a definitive diagnosis.
The Yankees failed to bring in another quality arm in free agency or the trade market.
Now, without Cole at least for the first few weeks of the season, the rotation could look something like this:
“With Gerrit Cole reportedly set to miss at least 1-2 months, here’s what the Yankees’ rotation may look like: Marcus Stroman, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt, Nestor Cortes, Cody Poteet/Luke Weaver,” Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

The Yankees were an injury to one of their starters away from using an unreliable pitcher as their fifth starter.
Hoch is saying that veterans Luke Weaver and Cody Poteet would be candidates to hold down that last spot.
However, it’s also fair to include other rookies or young names in the discussion as well.
For example, Luis Gil and Clayton Beeter have both looked amazing in exhibition play, and Will Warren is one of the Yanks’ most highly regarded prospects.
For what it’s worth, Poteet has been perfect in 5.2 innings in the spring, with just one walk and seven strikeouts.
Weaver, on the other hand, has a 6.75 ERA in 5.1 frames.
The Yanks will likely use the remaining of the spring training to sort out who wins that fifth starter gig in Cole’s absence.
