The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a disaster of an NFL season, with the team heading into the 2023 campaign with high hopes of going the distance and avenging their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl to everything falling apart in epic fashion after they won 10 of their first 11 games.
With the Eagles flaming out so badly and ending the year with a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL playoffs, the storied franchise was determined to get some things right during the offseason.
Fortunately for Philadelphia, the team did make a major splash in NFL free agency, as Philadelphia was able to add a key piece to the offensive puzzle with star running back Saquon Barkley.
While on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday, former Pittsburgh Steelers star Jerome Bettis gave some high praise to the Eagles for adding Barkley during this free-agency period.
“I think Saquon Barkley,” Bettis said. He was the gem of the free-agency class if you will. Whoever got him, I thought, was going to put themselves in a great position. I never, ever, ever thought the Eagles were in play for Saquon Barkley.”

Like pretty much everyone else, Bettis was shocked when the Eagles were able to steal Barkley away from the division-rival New York Giants, which is a substantial upgrade for Philadelphia while being a devastating blow for New York.
With the Eagles losing a few key veterans to retirement this year, it’ll be interesting to see if the team can bounce back next season with the additions they have made.
