With Gardner Minshew joining the Las Vegas Raiders, the Indianapolis Colts lost their backup quarterback.
That’s why they didn’t hesitate to make a run at a proven veteran, a guy who led the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs last season, and who proved that he still had plenty left in the tank: Joe Flacco.
Notably, Rob Maaddi reported that the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints were also interested in his services.
Before agreeing to a deal with the #Colts, Joe Flacco had an offer from the #Eagles and the #Saints were also interested in the veteran QB and 2023 AP Comeback Player of the Year.

This is far from a surprise.
Flacco was out of the league and looked poised for retirement when the Browns came knocking.
Against all odds, he put the team on his shoulders, turning back the clock and excelling on the field.
He wanted to be back in Cleveland this season, but the Browns decided to go with Jameis Winston instead, perhaps because of the fit or perhaps because they didn’t want him to be a distraction or put pressure on Deshaun Watson.
Now, he’s unlikely to take the field next season, and the Colts will most definitely hope that’s the case, but he’s going to be an excellent mentor for Anthony Richardson.
The Florida product missed most of his rookie campaign with multiple injuries but showed glimpses of great potential when he was on the field.
He’s got a cannon for an arm and he now gets to learn quite closely from someone who also boasts plenty of arm strength and an unwavering willingness to sling the football down the field, and that could do wonders for his development.
