After a disastrous 2022 NFL season, the Denver Broncos made some drastic changes during the offseason in order to right the ship and get this storied franchise back on track as a legitimate playoff team in the AFC.
Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as planned for the Broncos during the 2023 NFL season thus far, with new head coach Sean Payton and company sporting a 1-3 record heading into Week 5 against the New York Jets.
Things hit an all-time low for the Broncos in Week 3 when the Miami Dolphins dropped 70 points, the most points scored in the NFL since 1966, on Payton’s squad, which really shed some light on how bad the defense is in Denver right now.
A few weeks later, the team made another drastic change by sending veteran linebacker Randy Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers in a trade ahead of Week 5, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

This is an interesting turn of events for the Broncos, as Gregory was one of the team’s biggest free-agent signings recently, but clearly, things weren’t working out, and a change needed to be made.
Initially, it was reported that the Broncos had released Gregory, making him a free agent, but then that changed on Friday with the team sending him to the 49ers.
Not only is this an admission of another gamble that went wrong for the Broncos, as they can’t seem to get anything right at this point, but it’s also adding another talented player to an already dominant defense in San Francisco.
