It has been a somewhat atypical offseason in MLB.
There have been huge deals, like Shohei Ohtani getting $700 million and Yoshinobu Yamamoto $325 million, but some top-tier free agents remain available.
One of them is Blake Snell, who just won the NL Cy Young award.
Snell hasn’t been able to get the deal that he and his agent Scott Boras want.
Now, there is talk of him signing a front-loaded, short-term deal, all while he misses valuable spring training time with the team that will get him.
Per MLB insider Jon Heyman via B/R Walk-Off, there are two teams that make the most sense for Snell.
“The Giants and Angels continue to make the most sense for Blake Snell,” they tweeted, with a video of Heyman’s comments.

The San Francisco Giants are a natural fit: they need reliability at the top of the rotation beyond Logan Webb, and we all know San Francisco likes to pursue stars.
There is a foundation in place to contend in San Francisco, and even if they are not favorites in the NL West, they can get in via one of the Wild Card spots.
The Los Angeles Angels, on the other hand, can’t guarantee Snell or any other free agent that they will contend in 2024.
They couldn’t even make the playoffs with Ohtani last year (or any year since 2014), and now they lost him.
Adding Snell would surely make them better, and there could be a path toward being somewhat competitive if Mike Trout remains healthy, but it’s not the most likely scenario when the Angels share a division with three bona fide contenders: the Houston Astros, the Seattle Mariners, and the reigning World Series champs, the Texas Rangers.
In any case, the Snell saga could be close to coming to an end soon.
