The San Diego Padres made a blockbuster move on Wednesday.
They were in the market for a starting pitcher and got one of the best ones available.
San Diego acquired right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox.
Cease has been among the best pitchers in the American League over the past few seasons and he still has two years of control on his contract.
While they had to give up a hefty package of prospects, Cease has the talent to be worth it.
What Cease may not be prepared for is Opening Day for the Padres.
They are headed to South Korea where they will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for a two-game series.
According to Fabian Ardaya, Cease went from getting traded to preparing for a flight to South Korea in less than 24 hours.

He will have plenty of time to meet his new teammates on the long flight.
Cease will not start either game in South Korea.
Instead, the Padres will go with Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove.
So, we will have to wait until they come stateside to see Cease make his Padres debut.
The Padres now have one of the best starting rotations in baseball, as Darvish, Musgrove, and Cease are a great 1-3.
The Padres look like a team that can get back to the postseason in 2024.
Also, the Padres know what they are up against in the NL West.
But, they seem up for the challenge.
