The San Francisco 49ers proved to be one of the NFL’s best teams again last year.
After a lot of hype surrounded them in the preseason, this team cashed in on their potential, making it all the way to the Super Bowl.
While they couldn’t win the big game, the 49ers proved that they have the pieces to make it to the big game and that this team isn’t going anywhere in 2024.
This still might be true, but if a recent report is any indication, they could enter the new season without one of their vital wide receivers.
Analyst Rob Guerrera suggested that the 49ers “could be headed for a messy contract staredown with second-team All-Pro receiver Brandon Aiyuk.”

Aiyuk was one of the team’s top receivers last year and one of Brock Purdy’s favorite targets.
While he was a favorite in the locker room and among the fanbase, the 49ers have yet to sign him to an extension.
Guerrera indicated that this could be a point of contention between these two parties, especially since Aiyuk is reportedly looking for a “lucrative extension.”
As Guerrera points out, if he doesn’t get it, this could become a messy situation.
Deebo Samuel requested a trade two seasons ago, which resulted in him getting a contract extension.
Will it get to that point for Aiyuk and the 49ers?
That remains to be seen.
However, with the incoming talent in the 2024 draft class, if the 49ers feel similarly about a rookie player, they might be open to trading Aiyuk.
