The New York Mets are a team that can benefit from some improvements.
Last season, we saw them have a terrible year which finished with 75 wins and a fourth-place finish in the NL East.
But, the Mets have reasons for optimism entering 2024.
They bring back a solid core of hitters led by Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor.
Also, they welcome star closer Edwin Diaz back into the fold after missing all of last season.
Still, it looks like the Mets may be looking to improve.
Two names that have been floated around the Mets are J.D. Davis and J.D. Martinez.
According to Anthony DiComo, Mets executive David Stearns declined to comment on either of those players.
It appears the Mets are confident with Brett Baty and Mark Vientos at third base and designated hitter.
David Stearns declined comment today specifically on J.D. Davis and J.D. Martinez rumors, but indicated he expects the Mets’ current in-house options — i.e. Brett Baty and Mark Vientos — to be their primary 3B/DH options on OD.
Also says he’s constantly looking to improve.

Baty and Vientos were both top prospects coming up through the Mets’ system.
It makes sense for the team to see what they can do over a full season.
But, it is never a bad idea to bring in some veteran help.
Last season, Martinez was one of the best hitters in the National League.
He made the All-Star team and hit .271 with 33 home runs and 103 RBI.
Even though he no longer has a position, he can be an elite DH.
The Mets will have to score a lot of runs to win games, as their starting pitching staff looks like one of the worst in baseball.
Losing Kodai Senga was significant, but the Mets cannot let it derail their season.
Do not be surprised if the Mets make another move as we get closer to Opening Day.
