There may be no such thing as a “can’t-miss” prospect in the NFL Draft.
Of course, we’ve seen some generational talents live up to their projections, but that doesn’t happen every time.
As you may know by now, the quarterback position is a particularly tricky one when it comes to assessing potential NFL talents.
We’ve seen guys like Tom Brady and Brock Purdy beat the odds and find success despite being late-round picks, and we’ve seen others, like Josh Rosen and JaMarcus Russell, fail to live up to the hype.
Notably, it seems like that’s the case with most of the 2021 QB class.
Recently, NFL insider Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk claimed that the 2021 QB class was “officially a disaster.”
Trey Lance, traded for a fourth-round pick. Mac Jones, traded for a sixth-round pick. Justin Fields, traded for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Zach Wilson, not tradable. The 2021 QB class is officially a disaster. https://t.co/y93rwy2y0i

He explained that the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to get Justin Fields for a conditional sixth-round pick, all while Mac Jones was traded for a sixth as well.
On top of that, Trey Lance had already been traded for a fourth-round pick, and the New York Jets will most likely have to give up a sixth-round pick for someone else to take Zach Wilson and the money they owe him for next season.
Hopefully, this won’t be the case with this season’s QB class.
Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels look like potential superstars in the making, but there’s also Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix Jr.
At the end of the day, it’s not always when you’re drafted or where you’re going, but about what you’re able to do with your opportunities.
