The Washington Commanders cleaned house in the offseason and the new ownership group led by Josh Harris is hoping the new regime can rebuild the franchise.
Head coach Dan Quinn inherited a roster lacking foundational pieces on both sides of the ball, but the team has been hard at work compiling players to hopefully get them to a place of contention in 2024.
The Commanders were sellers at the NFL trade deadline and as they dealt away Chase Young and Montez Sweat in exchange for modest draft capital.
Washington predictably struggled to generate pressure afterwards and they limped toward the finish line in 2023.
Quinn is a defensive-minded coach and will have to make do with what’s leftover from last year’s squad plus the new talent they bring in via the 2024 NFL Draft.
Washington did keep one of their own in free agency, though, as they’ve reportedly come to terms with Efe Obada, via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.
“The Commanders announced that they have re-signed Obada this week. They did not announce any terms of the deal,” Alper wrote.

Obada has spent the past two seasons with the Commanders, though his 2023 season ended prematurely due to a leg injury he suffered in Week 11.
He also was forced to miss the beginning of the season because of a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve.
When healthy, Obada is a solid pass rusher off the edge that can get into backfields, so signing him to a one-year deal seems like a low-risk move for a team that’s looking for help at every position.
