After a ton of uncertainty and speculation about his immediate future in the NFL, quarterback Justin Fields finally found out his fate recently when the Chicago Bears agreed to trade him to the Pittsburgh Steelers to be Russell Wilson’s backup, presumably.
Over the last couple of months, the Bears having the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft has been one of the main storylines in the league because no one knew exactly what the team had planned for the pick, especially considering they traded the top pick last year, as it appeared the team still had faith in Fields.
However, this year is different as the team seems to be all-in on drafting USC superstar quarterback Caleb Williams with the top pick on April 25 after they traded Fields to the Steelers.
With the Bears struggling to find a trade suitor for Fields’ services, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III chimed in on the subject on Twitter, as he believes the league has sent a message that he is not good enough, which should motivate the young quarterback moving forward.
“The return the Chicago Bears got for trading Justin Fields sent a CLEAR MESSAGE. The NFL just told Justin Fields they don’t think he is good enough to get the job done. I believe he is. The NFL is a business, but he should take it personal,” Griffin tweeted, along with a video.

The Bears were only able to get a sixth-round pick in 2025 in return for Fields, which is way below what many were expecting, as it wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility that they’d get multiple drafts and much higher up in the draft.
However, that’s what Chicago had to settle for and Griffin thinks this kind of disrespect should motivate the young quarterback moving forward to prove his worth and why the Bears were so high on him in the first place.
