The 2023 NFL Season ended a lot sooner for the Dallas Cowboys than they initially anticipated.
After playing well for the majority of the regular season and being strong on offense and defense, many expected the Cowboys to make a deep playoff run.
However, those dreams fell short in the Wild Card round of the postseason, leaving this team to go back to the drawing board for the 2024 campaign.
As the Cowboys begin preparing for 2024, they have promoted one of their coaches to an Assistant Head Coach, as Josina Anderson has reported.
Al Harris is currently the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach, but as Anderson indicates, he now has “assistant head coach” on that title as well.
New: I’m told #Cowboys defensive backs coach Al Harris is expected to be promoted —adding Assistant Head Coach to his current title, per source.
Kudos to head coach Mike McCarthy for making this move. https://t.co/fXob52amlV

This news was in response to another tweet from Anderson, in which he mentioned that the Cowboys have 62 interceptions in the last four seasons, which leads the league.
The Cowboys’ defense has been one of their greatest assets over the past several seasons, and it was a big reason they played so well in 2023.
It might have faltered in their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, but as a whole, this has been one of the best units in the league.
As they look to 2024 to try and improve, Harris’ promotion could be a sign that things are moving in the right direction.
Jerry Jones seems to trust him enough to help lead the defensive backs, and his appointment as an assistant is also a good sign.
It will be interesting to see what the Cowboys will do throughout the rest of the offseason and which players they will add in the draft to improve this roster.
