After five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, linebacker Shaquil Barrett is on the move once again, as he will play for his third team in the NFL next season after agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins.
Even though Barrett has signed a one-year deal with a team that likely gives him a better chance to win a Super Bowl or at least be a title contender in 2024, the veteran linebacker isn’t happy that the Buccaneers didn’t want him back for a sixth season in Tampa Bay and chose to release him.
As a result of the Buccaneers cutting ties with Barrett, the 31-year-old is highly motivated to have a stellar season during the 2024 campaign, as he said the Dolphins will be happy they brought him in while the Buccaneers will regret letting him go.
Barrett vented his frustration over being cut by the Buccaneers during an interview with Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, via ProFootballTalk.
“A lot to prove,” Barrett said, per Schad. “Especially getting cut from another team like that, adds another whole fuel to the fire right there. And I’m like, ‘Dolphins gonna be happy they signed me. Tampa gonna be mad they let me go.’”

Fortunately for both teams, both franchises are headed in the right direction, with the Buccaneers seemingly turning the corner with Baker Mayfield under center and Miami being one of the best teams in the AFC with Mike McDaniel being the right man for the job as the leader on the sideline for the Dolphins.
Miami gets an upgrade on the defensive side of the football with the addition of Barrett, who signed a one-year deal worth up to $8 million while also being a highly motivated veteran player looking to prove his worth after being humbled by his former team.
