The Houston Texans had a surprising run in 2023, with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans leading the team to an AFC South crown and a playoff win over the Cleveland Browns.
They hit the offseason with a lot of cap space and have brought in a slew of reinforcements, namely on defense where they have added Danielle Hunter, Denico Autry, Azeez Al-Shaair, Jeff Okudah, Michael Ford, Tim Settle, and now reportedly have even more help coming.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the Texans are now signing veteran DL Mario Edwards to a 1-year deal.

The 30-year-old Edwards spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks where he posted 21 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.
Edwards is a solid rotational player who will provide some depth in Houston for a young defense, and he also stays on the field, playing at least 12 games in all but one of his nine seasons in the NFL.
The Texans will be Edwards’ seventh team after the Raiders spent a second-rounder on him in 2015.
Houston has now quietly put together a promising defense with talent at all levels.
Signing Hunter and Autry was a strong response to losing Jonathan Greenard and his 12.5 sacks to the Minnesota Vikings.
Okudah will be on a one-year, prove-it deal and might have a chance to start alongside Derek Stingley Jr. as the No. 2 corner.
Al-Shaair is a tackling machine and his prowess is needed after the Texans lost three of its five leading tacklers in free agency, including Blake Cashman, who signed with the Vikings after leading Houston with 106 tackles.
Fun days are ahead for this Texans defense.
