The San Francisco Giants were relatively close to signing Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa in the 2022-23 offseason, and were very much in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes in the 2023-24 edition.
They were in the thick of the race for several stars, and ended up netting some: Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, Jung Hoo Lee, Jordan Hicks, and now Blake Snell.
That’s right: they secured the reigning NL Cy Young award winner on a two-year, $62 million deal that is well below his initial market valuation.
Keeping up with the Los Angeles Dodgers over a long season will be very hard to do, but there is no denying that the Giants look a lot better than they did last year.
They were close to being a playoff-caliber squad in 2023, so that will be the goal this year: making it to October.
To help them, they will get Snell and his 2.25 ERA from last season, not to mention his bat-missing ability.
With him on board, the Giants are forming a fantastic 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.
“A defending Cy Young winner and runner-up isn’t a bad start to a rotation,” FOX Sports: MLB tweeted.

The two best pitchers in the National League last year, Snell and Logan Webb, are employed by the Giants.
That’s much better than some teams projected to fight for a Wild Card spot in the NL.
Provided both stay healthy, the Giants will be hard to beat, and this could be especially true in a short playoff series.
Snell is projected to post a 3.28 ERA this year, and Webb is at 3.37.
With those two leading the pitching staff, only good things can happen.
