Former Saints quarterback Jameis Winston left the team in free agency this offseason to sign a one-year, $4 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.
Winston spent four years with the Saints and started only ten games and will now be backing up Deshaun Watson, who has made only 12 starts over the last three years, so Winston’s path to playing time might be a bit brighter backing him up as opposed to Derek Carr.
Jameis officially said goodbye to the Saints and their fans today with a message on Instagram, saying “I love you New Orleans, through and through.”

Winston thanked everyone in the organization and mentioned how grateful he was for everything the city had to offer, including Mardi Gras, the music, the chefs, and the culture.
Winston, now 30 years old, has not had a team fully commit to him as a starter since his infamous 33-touchdown, 30-interception season in 2019, his last year with the Buccaneers.
Winston showed a lot of promise in 2021 when he began the season as the starter for the Saints after beating out Taysom Hill, throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 and amassing 14 touchdowns to just three interceptions before a torn ACL ended his season.
The league is more fun with Jameis in it, so it’s great to see him get another opportunity, but we can only hope to see him as a starter again at some point.
The Browns have to be hoping he doesn’t take the field at all after coming off a season where they had to use five different quarterbacks.
