One of the most intriguing quarterback prospects heading into the 2024 NFL Draft is the same quarterback that led the University of Michigan to a title under head coach Jim Harbaugh last year, with J.J. McCarthy getting a lot of buzz as of late as a player who could sneak up into the top five in the draft.
However, McCarthy won’t be in contention for the No. 1 overall pick by the Chicago Bears, even though Harbaugh would beg to differ, as the Chicago Bears seem pretty deadset on drafting Caleb Williams out of the University of Southern California.
After Williams is off the board at No. 1, the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots are expected to take quarterbacks at No. 2 and No. 3, with Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels likely landing in those spots in no particular order.
Then it gets really interesting at quarterback, with McCarthy potentially being the next player taken at that position, with the most recent odds from FanDuel Sportsbook having the Minnesota Vikings either trading up to get him or hoping he falls to No. 11 via Pick 6 Sports.
Betting odds per @FanDuel for the team to draft QB J.J McCarthy:
Minnesota Vikings -115
New York Giants +350
Denver Broncos +430
New England Patriots +900
Las Vegas Raiders +1600— Pick 6 Sports (@pick6sportswin) March 20, 2024
At this point in time, it seems like there could be a few trades that take place before or during draft day, with some quarterback-needy teams trying to move up to bring in a potential franchise player like McCarthy.
Along with the Vikings looking to replace veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders will all be potentially interested in drafting a quarterback this year.
