Last offseason, the blockbuster trade that sent Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets led plenty of people to believe the Jets had just become Super Bowl contenders.
After all, they had an excellent wide receiver in Garrett Wilson, two strong running backs in Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook, and a defense that was one of the NFL’s best in 2022.
But Rodgers tore his Achilles on the Jets’ first offensive series of the season, and just like that, 2023 turned into a lost year for them.
LeSean McCoy said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that despite a couple of nice moves in free agency, he still doesn’t think highly of the Jets’ chances in 2024.
“I’m not counting on Aaron Rodgers until I see him in the playoffs and actually win some games and go to the Super Bowl,” McCoy said.
The Jets made some good moves this offseason but @CutOnDime25 still isn’t a believer.

McCoy pointed out the fact that despite Rodgers’ individual success over the years, he has won only one Super Bowl, and thus he has to prove that he can lead New York to the promised land.
Since winning that Super Bowl during the 2010 season, Rodgers has lost four times in the NFC Championship Game, and because of that, McCoy simply can’t put him on the same level as Joe Montana, Tom Brady, or Patrick Mahomes.
New York has gone out and gotten wide receiver Mike Williams, who should give them a legitimate No. 2 option next to Wilson, especially in the red zone, as well as two offensive line upgrades in Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses.
Then there is the matter of whether Rodgers can even play at a high level anymore, given that an Achilles tear is arguably the worst injury an athlete can suffer, and the fact that Rodgers has tons of wear and tear from 15 seasons as a QB1.
But if he does play at a high level again this fall, perhaps he can elevate the Jets to a level of play they haven’t enjoyed for many years.
