The New York Jets appeared to have a Super Bowl-caliber roster last season, but Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles tear in Week 1 torpedoed any chances they had of doing anything significant.
Even though he is now 40 years of age, Rodgers has vowed to return, and the Jets have added productive wide receiver Mike Williams and offensive linemen Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses.
While their roster appears to be competitive, if not strong, Nick Wright isn’t feeling it, and he said on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that he doesn’t believe in the Jets because their roster is too old.
“If I were a Jets fan I’d be livid,” Wright said.

“They have a very old team in a league that does not ever work in,” Wright said.
Williams is 29 years of age, which isn’t old, but he has had some injuries that make him seem older than he really is, and Smith and Moses are both 33, which is old.
Many of New York’s other key players are young, such as running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and several of their defensive mainstays, but they badly needed help on their offensive line, and bringing in two 33-year-old offensive lineman may not get the job done.
Many athletes lose plenty of their game after tearing their Achilles, and that is the concern with Rodgers, especially because of all the wear and tear he has accumulated since 2008 when he first became a full-time starter.
In addition, the AFC is becoming even deeper after multiple teams made moves this month to improve their prospects.
If Rodgers returns and continues to play at a high level, perhaps the Jets can do something of note, but success doesn’t quite seem inevitable for them at this point.
