The baseball world was shocked on Wednesday after learning that Shohei Ohtani’s personal interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, had been fired by the Los Angeles Dodgers after a reported “massive theft.”
A significant amount of money, $4.5 million dollars to be specific, was transferred from Ohtani’s account to a bookmaker.
Mizuhara reportedly took it without Ohtani knowing about it.
That contradicts his initial statement that he asked the player for the money and he gave it to him.
Amid speculation from fans saying that Mizuhara might be a scapegoat, Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya reported that Ohtani is currently not facing discipline or under investigation.
“The latest on the Shohei Ohtani-Ippei Mizuhara saga: Ohtani is not currently facing discipline, according to an MLB official, nor is he believed to be under active investigation by the league,” he tweeted.
“In the course of responding to recent media inquiries, we discovered that Shohei has been the victim of a massive theft, and we are turning the matter over to the authorities,” Ohtani’s attorneys said in a statement, according to BBC.

Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million pact with the Dodgers and has now played two games with his new team, is now at the center of the storm because of his interpreter.
There seems to be a few inconsistencies in the story, though, so we will likely have to wait for more clarity in order to know more details.
According to Ardaya, “Ohtani didn’t even enter the Dodgers clubhouse during the 50 minutes reporters were allowed inside before Thursday’s Seoul Series finale against the San Diego Padres.”
Evidently, there won’t be much contact with the media in the foreseeable future.
