Prior to their Week 3 game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Los Angeles Chargers wound up including J.C. Jackson as part of their inactives list for the matchup, despite the fact that the veteran cornerback was not dealing with any sort of injury at the time.
No one was really sure why the Chargers made this decision, but it turns out that it was just the beginning of the end of Jackson’s tenure with the team.
During Los Angeles’ Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Jackson reportedly kept his shoes untied and “refused to go into the game,” according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Report: The last straw for the #Chargers before trading CB J.C. Jackson to the #Patriots, was that he refused to enter the #Raiders game last week, per @RapSheet and @TomPelissero

That was clearly the final straw for the Chargers as they wound up trading him and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick to the New England Patriots a few days ago in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft selection.
Basically, Los Angeles just wanted him off of their roster, and they didn’t really care how it happened as long as it happened.
After signing a lucrative five-year contract worth $82.5 million with the Chargers last offseason, Jackson turned out to be a massive disappointment for the franchise.
He only appeared in five games for Los Angeles last season, but during those matchups, opposing quarterbacks had a 149.3 pass rating when throwing in his direction, and he allowed his coverage to haul in a total of four touchdowns.
The hope for the Chargers was that Jackson would get back on track this year and emerge as a top cornerback for their defense.
But, obviously, that was never able to happen.
