Andy Reid has been a coach in the NFL for a very long time and during his time in the league, he has been able to achieve an impressive amount of success.
In his first opportunity to be an NFL head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reid helped lead the franchise to five appearances in the NFC Championship and one appearance in the Super Bowl.
He eventually landed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 as the team’s new head coach, and he’s remained with the organization since.
With Reid helping lead the way, the Chiefs have won the Super Bowl in three of the last five years and they will be looking to win a Vince Lombardi trophy for the third consecutive season in 2024.
So, it’s very clear that the longtime head coach knows what is necessary to be successful in the league, which is why some eyebrows were recently raised when he shared the following statement about punters (via The Athletic on Twitter).
“Punters have to have big butts,” Reid said.
For years, the buttocks have been key indicators for football scouts.
They affect one’s ability to generate power.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid doesn’t mind players losing weight, but it’s important that they “keep that ass going.”

On the surface, it’s a silly statement for Reid to make, but there’s an actual purpose behind (pun intended) what he said.
The current Chiefs head coach believes the size of a player’s backside can determine how much power they are able to generate out on the field.
So, in Reid’s mind, the bigger the butt for a punter, the further the football is going to travel when it comes time to launch it in the air.
There are probably some outliers, but considering this statement came from one of the most successful head coaches in NFL history, we should take his word for it.
