This year’s NFL draft is expected to be a potentially great one, and most of the attention is focused on the multiple quarterback and wide receiver prospects who have serious star potential.
But Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is an interesting cornerback prospect, and he is projected to be an early second-round pick, with the possibility of perhaps sneaking into the first round.
Former NFL defensive lineman and current NFL on CBS analyst Leger Douzable really likes Rakestraw as a prospect, and he even feels Rakestraw can become an immediate starter at the nickel position this coming season.
“He’s someone that will make an immediate impact for a defense right away,” Douzable said.

Douzable likes Rakestraw’s physicality and the fact that he can impact an opponent’s run game while also being the tone-setter for an entire defense, which Douzable notes is rare for a corner.
Douzable even compared Rakestraw to Ronde Barber, who was a standout NFL for 16 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was named to five Pro Bowls.
Not that many cornerbacks go extremely high in the draft unless they’re clearly special, and this year’s draft is simply skewed toward the offensive side of the football.
In addition to the QB and WR prospects everyone has been talking about, there is also Joe Alt, an offensive tackle from the University of Notre Dame, and Brock Bowers, a tight end from the University of Georgia.
