Since Caleb Williams appears more and more likely to be a lock for Chicago Bears’ first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, many believe the draft really starts at No. 2 with the Washington Commanders.
It’s still unknown what the Commanders want to do with that pick, and according to new head coach Dan Quinn, nothing is off the table at the moment.
Quinn spoke with Tom Pelissero of NFL Network and told him that trading down is still an option, though it would take a lot to get them to choose a trade over a potential franchise quarterback in Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
With Caleb Williams widely viewed as a lock to go No. 1 overall in next month’s draft, is the phone ringing at No. 2?
Dan Quinn told me yes … but it’d take a lot to get the #Commanders to consider moving.https://t.co/viwzhsSFqu pic.twitter.com/sEV6PrJnha

Quinn acknowledged that teams are just doing their due diligence and that while the phone is certainly ringing, it doesn’t mean anything is imminent.
“You have to do your due diligence to listen and to find out just to make sure, like is there something that you just couldn’t refuse,” Quinn said.
Washington appears to have approached it’s offseason with an assumption that it is taking a quarterback at No. 2 based on some of the other moves the team has made.
The Commanders traded last year’s starting quarterback Sam Howell to the Seahawks and signed former Eagles backup QB Marcus Mariota, who is unlikely to be in the running for another starting gig in Washington.
Those moves paved the way for likely either Maye or Daniels, and while Quinn floated the notion that teams that trade down from No. 2 don’t usually go lower than Nos. 6 or 7 (potentially Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s projected draft slots), it would still be a surprise to see them move the pick.
