The New England Patriots don’t have a starting-caliber quarterback right now, and there aren’t many options in free agency or available via trade.
Most insiders believe they’re a lock to go after a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft.
And, with this being a QB-heavy draft and them having the No. 3 selection, it would make perfect sense.
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to hear first-year head coach Jerod Mayo confirm that QB will be the priority for the team in the upcoming edition of the NFL Draft.
Nonetheless, he also said that they would consider all their options at No. 3 (Via Around the NFL).
“It’s the priority right now,” Mayo said. “But with that being said, you have to really be in love with the guy to take him at No. 3. So really all the options are still open for us.”

Truth be told, it’s hard to envision them doing anything different.
Unless they get a Godfather-like offer, they’re not going to trade down from No. 3, and even if they do, they could still get their hands on the likes of J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, or Michael Penix Jr.
There’s also a chance the Patriots go with Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 3, and they use Jacoby Brissett as a place-holder while they find another quarterback, perhaps in the next edition of the draft.
Then again, as great a prospect as Harrison is, they currently have a greater sense of urgency for a quarterback, and the talent gap between the top three prospects and the other three could be significant.
All things considered, it’ll be either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye in Foxboro, and the fans will hope this experiment turns out significantly better than Mac Jones.
