It’s the beginning of a new day for the New England Patriots.
Bill Belichick is no longer calling all the shots, and it’ll be up to Jerod Mayo and the front office to build their new roster.
Needless to say, that has to start with a quarterback.
With that in mind, it seems like the Patriots already have a guy they like at the position.
Patriots beat writer Evan Lazar reported that Coach Mayo raved about Maye’s interview with the team at the NFL Scouting Combine, claiming that he brought a lot of energy and showed plenty of leadership during their time together.
Mayo: “Drake Maye had a fantastic interview [with the #Patriots] at the combine. He brings a lot of energy. You can tell he has that leadership ability.”

The Patriots are currently in possession of the No. 3 pick, and Maye is projected to go to Foxboro with that selection.
There’s still a slim chance that the Washington Commanders take him at No. 2, but Jayden Daniels seems to be a better fit for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense, and Caleb Williams is almost a lock to go first overall.
Maye showed glimpses of great play during his time as UNC’s starter.
The arm talent and physical traits are most definitely there.
Some are worried that his game won’t necessarily translate to the pros, and others think he might need some time on the sidelines before being ready.
The fans hope the team gets it right at quarterback this time, and he could be the next big thing to enter the league.
Whatever the case, the Patriots will also need to do a good job of putting talent around him, as they still have a subpar wide receiver room.
