The Baltimore Ravens are coming off an outstanding season, but they couldn’t get the job done.
Some think that was the best chance they would ever have in the Patrick Mahomes era, especially considering the roster they had.
They lost some key pieces in free agency, and while they were still able to hold onto most of their core, some of those losses could be significant.
Notably, that includes Odell Beckham Jr., who has an offer from the Miami Dolphins.
When asked about why they didn’t bring him back, HC John Harbaugh admitted that it was for financial reasons, as the Ravens are currently tight against the cap (via Jamison Hensley).

Truth be told, OBJ was one of the most overpaid players in the league last season, and he didn’t have the kind of impact or numbers that would justify bringing him back at a similar price.
He’s one of the most talented players in the game, but he can’t seem to shake off his injuries, and he’s no longer the same kind of difference-maker.
The Ravens knew they had overpaid to get him, as they reportedly offered twice as much as he would’ve gotten with the New York Jets.
Now, he’s likely going to get a ‘prove-it’ incentive-based deal.
Needless to say, he could end up being the ultimate low-risk/high-reward pickup if he signs at a reasonable price.
If not, contending teams like the Ravens are doing the right thing by passing and not overspending on an aging and injury-prone player, as talented as he might be.
