The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new quarterback room.
Kenny Pickett is no longer in town, and it’ll be up to Russell Wilson to battle it out with Justin Fields for the QB1 job.
Notably, Mike Tomlin has already stated that Wilson is in pole position to be the starter, but Fields will also get some consideration.
The coach showed his faith in the Ohio State product.
Talking at the AFC coaches breakfast, Tomlin stated that ‘there’s still a lot of meat left in that bone’ when talking about Fields and his unimpressive career record in Chicago (via Gerry Dulac).

Truth be told, Fields shouldn’t be to blame for his bad record.
The Chicago Bears haven’t been a good team in decades, and they set him up for failure over and over.
Granted, he missed some time and his numbers weren’t impressive, but he always played behind a mediocre offensive line and with minimal talent at wide receiver.
On top of that, the offense wasn’t designed for his skills, and there’s only so much any player can do in a situation like that.
Fields has always been a talented player, and he’s still very young.
Countless NFL players believe he should’ve gotten another opportunity to prove his worth.
And if Wilson doesn’t live up to the expectations early in the season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Black and Gold turn to the Ohio State product to give him a chance to demonstrate that he belongs in the National Football League.
