Over the past few months, the quarterbacks that will be available in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft have been all anyone can talk about in the league, which isn’t uncommon, with only a few weeks left until the Chicago Bears on the clock at No. 1 overall.
However, the talk has shifted from Caleb Williams going to the Bears at No. 1 and either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels going to the Washington Commanders or the New England Patriots at No. 2 or No. 3, as J.J. McCarthy out of the University of Michigan has entered the conversation.
Initially, it seemed as though McCarthy would be the fourth, fifth, or sixth quarterback taken in the draft, as only former Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was singing his praises, but now that has changed with seemingly every draft expert and former NFL executive jumping on the bandwagon.
The latest to give McCarthy high praise is Mike Tannenbaum of ESPN, who believes the former Michigan quarterback has a very high ceiling via NFL on ESPN.
“I love him,” Tannenbaum said. “The tape sets the floor, the character sets the ceiling. His ceiling is limitless.”
“I love him. … His ceiling is limitless.”

McCarthy seems to be rising up draft boards at a rapid rate, and that may be happening at the right time, with less than a month to go before the Bears get the draft underway on April 25.
Although there seems to be no question right now that Williams will be going to Chicago, the next quarterback off the board at No. 2 to the Washington Commanders remains up in the air, as it could be McCarthy, Maye, or Daniels.
