The top of the 2024 NFL Draft is shaping up to be a quarterback carousel, with now four prospects starting to solidify themselves atop the board after impressive Pro Day performances.
For months, the projected top 3 picks were USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels, but in recent weeks a fourth quarterback has crashed the party.
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah went on The Pat McAfee Show and described Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy as being “really highly thought of and that’s not a smoke screen.”
“I put it out in my last mock draft and I have Quarterbacks going one through four..
I’m talking to teams that are in the Quarterback market and teams that aren’t..

After talking to many teams and learning who is in the quarterback market, Jeremiah has the top four picks all being quarterbacks in his most recent mock draft.
If McCarthy has solidified himself as a top-4 pick, the question then becomes which team will be trading down.
The Arizona Cardinals with the No. 4 pick have Kyler Murray locked up and will not be selecting a quarterback, while there have been reports that either the Commanders at No. 2 or the Patriots at No. 3 could be open to trading down.
The Vikings, Raiders, Broncos, and Giants all have ammo to move up into the top 4 if they want to go get a new franchise QB, and with so many available, this is the year to trade down and get an absolute haul in return.
McCarthy’s recent rise has felt like a smokescreen, and even though Jeremiah said otherwise, it’s hard to get a grasp on his projected landing spot.
We have heard him slotted as high as No. 2 after his Pro Day, but things may change after Jayden Daniels’ Pro Day today.
