It’s been a tough offseason for the San Francisco 49ers as they look to move on from their devastating overtime loss to the Chiefs in this year’s Super Bowl, but everyone seems like they are doing their best to look forward.
Naturally, head coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Brock Purdy took a lot of the blame, but Shanahan is going ten toes down and standing behind his guy.
Shanahan sat down with NFL Network’s Steve Wyche to talk about Purdy and pointed out how almost every quarterback selected before Mr. Irrelevant, and many after him in recent years, has been either traded or demoted and hasn’t reached the Super Bowl.
Almost every QB selected before Brock Purdy and many after him the last two seasons has been traded, demoted and certainly hasn’t reached the Super Bowl. 49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan goes into that and more in our conversation from the NFL Annual Meeting. pic.twitter.com/AmGvaoKSx3

He also noted how Purdy hasn’t had a traditional offseason with Shanahan yet, as his status as the starting quarterback prior to last year still wasn’t set in stone, especially with him recovering from the elbow injury he suffered in the 2022 NFC Championship game.
Now, Purdy has the full organization behind him and just got married, so Shanahan is excited to move forward and have a traditional offseason with his young quarterback and keep working to bring home that championship that has eluded him for years.
Purdy blossomed into an MVP candidate last season and had a strong Super Bowl as well, and Shanahan understands the window to win a Super Bowl is right now with Purdy still making under $1 million a year.
If he puts up another year or two like he did in 2023, Purdy won’t be making six figures much longer.
