Not so long ago, the New England Patriots and their fans thought they had found Tom Brady’s heir.
While not athletically impressive or particularly mobile, Mac Jones looked the part in his rookie campaign.
He regressed vastly last season and has only looked even more mortal this year, getting benched twice through the first five games of the season.
As a matter of fact, Jones has now as many pick-sixes thrown at Gillette Stadium in two and one-quarter of a season than Tom Brady in his 17-year stint with the organization (via FOX Sports NFL).

We gave Jones a pass for his subpar performances last season because of the Patriots’ erratic and rather-bizarre situation.
Bill Belichick refused to name an offensive coordinator and had former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia calling the plays.
Jones was evidently frustrated and had some antics on the sideline, and it seemed like his relationship with Bill wasn’t in a good place.
Both he and Belichick entered the season with big question marks over their heads.
Adding Bill O’Brien to the coaching staff hasn’t done a lot to improve Jones’ situation, but he’s also crumbled under pressure multiple times already.
There’s still a chance that Jones could end up having a somewhat decent career in the league, but it might not happen in New England.
At least, not with Bill Belichick, who could also be on his way out at the end of the season if the Patriots continue to struggle this way.
