The Dallas Cowboys could not come to a contract resolution with Tony Pollard, who ultimately left the team in the offseason.
Pollard’s departure leaves the Cowboys depleted at the running back position.
None of these remaining backs present as a traditional RB1, which could mean the Cowboys are in the market to add someone else before the season starts.
Craig Carton and his team discussed that Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook have expressed interest in joining the team.
“Ezekiel Elliott’s done. His career’s over,” Carton said.

Carton believes that, while Elliott has been a great player at times throughout his career, his time in the NFL should come to a close.
He also said, “Ezekiel Elliott is like a 53-year-old guy in a 28-year-old’s body.”
With these comments, Carton made it clear that Elliott would not be a good fit for the Cowboys or any team.
Elliott is familiar with most of the team, especially Dak Prescott, but in Carton’s eyes, that doesn’t matter.
If Elliott isn’t the answer, the Cowboys could turn to a veteran like Cook to help them out.
Cook played for the New York Jets last season, but he wasn’t fully utilized because Breece Hall was fully healthy.
The Baltimore Ravens did claim him off waivers, where he made a marginal impact in the playoffs.
With this in mind, Cook could provide a veteran presence in the locker room at the very least, and if he has enough gas in the tank, he could also make an impact on the field.
