The Houston Astros and the New York Yankees opened their 2024 campaigns on Thursday.
The game, at the moment of writing this article, was still being played.
The ‘Stros opened the score with four runs off Yankees lefty Nestor Cortes.
The Yankees had several chances to trim their lead, but three double plays killed rallies in the first few innings.
It was in the fifth inning that New York could muster something offensively.
With the bases loaded and no outs, newcomer Juan Soto went to the plate looking for his first hit and RBI with his new team.
Just like he has done many times over the years, he delivered.
FOX Sports MLB posted a video with his first hit an RBI as a Yankee.

With the count 2-1 and his team down 4-0, Soto deposited a high 95 mph sinker to right field on a screaming line drive that brought one run to the plate.
Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch to force in another run, and Anthony Volpe walked with the bases loaded to put the game 4-3.
Just an inning later, Oswaldo Cabrera homered to tie the game.
Yankees fans have put their faith in Soto as the man who will help Aaron Judge and the rest of the talented New York lineup on their quest to return to the postseason.
Soto himself is a postseason hero, starring in 2019 during the Washington Nationals’ World Series run.
He is young, he is hungry, and he has already started paying dividends for the Yankees.
