The NFL Draft is right around the corner.
There is a lot of excitement surrounding this event every year, but this year’s draft seems to have an abnormal amount of buzz.
One likely explanation could be an embarrassment of riches at quarterback, as this class seems to be one of the strongest in recent history.
Some mock drafts indicate as many as six or seven quarterbacks could be taken in the first round, which could truly change the course of many franchises.
While analysts typically agree that Caleb Williams is the clear-cut No. 1 prospect, the rankings after him are much murkier.
Michael Penix Jr. is an example of a polarizing player, someone who makes these rankings tough for analysts.
Penix played exceptionally well in his final year at Washington, but with his age and injury history in mind, some are worried about his NFL ceiling.
With these concerns in mind, David Carr appeared on NFL Total Access and discussed the three words that best described Penix.
He used the words “velocity” and “accuracy,” which are positive, but he also called him a “statue.”
What 3 words would @DCarr8 use to describe Michael Penix Jr.?
1. Velocity
2. Accuracy
3. Statue pic.twitter.com/k1d5K6nPxo— NFL Total Access (@NFLTotalAccess) March 28, 2024
The statue comment is negative as it pertains to Penix’s prospect profile, but Carr does seem to like his velocity and accuracy.
Penix was able to show off his speed and athleticism at his Pro Day performance, but even with this in mind, Carr is worried about him staying still in the pocket.
If quarterbacks are too stiff in the pocket, it can result in them taking more sacks and being unable to read what the defense gives them.
Can Penix rise above these concerns when he gets to the NFL?
