Earlier this week, one of the top free agents left on the market, pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, found a new home when he agreed to a two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers worth $20 million.
The Panthers will be the sixth team Clowney has suited up for since entering the league back in 2014 when the Houston Texans selected him with the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.
Recently, Clowney revealed that he’s attempting to convince another star defender, free-agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore, to join him on the Panthers’ roster for the 2024 season (via Joe Person on Twitter).
Jadeveon Clowney on Stephon Gilmore: “I’m gonna try to get him to pull up, too.”
Says Gilmore told him he’s trying to get the Panthers to bring him back.

Before Gilmore entered the NFL in 2012, he and Clowney were teammates at the University of South Carolina in 2011, and the pass rusher clearly enjoyed the time he spent that season with the veteran defensive back.
Last season, Clowney wound up with the Baltimore Ravens, and in 17 appearances, he finished with 43 tackles (nine for a loss), 23 pressures, 19 QB hits, 9.5 sacks, five pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Prior to his year with the Ravens, the veteran previously spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, and Texans.
Now 31 years old, Clowney is closer to the end of his career in the NFL, and it seems safe to say that finishing up his time in the league as a member of the Panthers is something he would probably enjoy.
