Former superstar wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. has become a WR guru in his post-NFL career, garnering a lot of praise for his accurate assessments and predictions over the years, most notably calling Cooper Kupp the best receiver in his draft class years ago.
Smith recently spoke with Robert Griffin III and shed light on another WR prospect he likes in this upcoming draft.
Smith is a big fan of South Carolina WR prospect Xavier Legette and compared him to one of the best in the game, DK Metcalf, saying “When DK was at Ole Miss coming out of college, I think Legette’s route tree is a little bit more advanced.”

Metcalf was a second-round pick by the Seahawks largely due to his athletic prowess, and Legette is a similar athletic specimen.
At the NFL Combine, Legette ran a 4.39 40-yard dash and posted a 40-inch vertical at 221 pounds.
Legette had a big year as a fifth-year senior at South Carolina, posting 71 catches for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns, which was more catches and yards than Metcalf had in his entire college career.
Like Metcalf, Legette is seen as a projected second-round pick who could possibly sneak into the back half of the first round if a team falls in love with him.
Legette had only 42 receptions in his first four years at South Carolina, and his fifth-year breakout did wonders for his draft stock.
Metcalf is a great example of someone getting drafted based on potential and athleticism working out well, and teams will be hoping Legette can do the same.
