The Dallas Cowboys have been the least active team in the NFL offseason thus far.
They have a big hole at the running back position, with Tony Pollard leaving and them being either unable or unwilling to make a run at any of the top-notch free agents that were up for grabs.
Recently, HC Mike McCarthy claimed that help was on the way, and while most people assumed they were talking about the NFL Draft, it seems like they could have different plans.
According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott are mutually interested in a reunion, with both sides open to getting a deal done:
Per Fowler, the Cowboys like what they saw from Elliott with the New England Patriots.
He played all 17 regular-season games and was a bigger factor in the final month of the season when Rhamondre Stevenson was out with a high-ankle sprain.
The 28-year-old running back had a tough time last offseason and had to wait until August to get a one-year, $3 million deal with Bill Belichick’s team.
Elliott was the No. 4 pick in the 2016 draft, and it didn’t take long before he became a star.
Then, he fell from grace and his production took a huge dive as soon as he became the highest-paid running back in the league.
In eight years in the league, he’s led the NFL in rushing twice, has made it to three Pro Bowls, and has rushed for 8,904 yards and 71 touchdowns.
