The New York Jets made a blockbuster acquisition this week, landing star edge rusher Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third-round pick.
The Jets will take on $14.5 million of Reddick’s salary in 2024, which is the final year of his deal, and in order to accommodate his hefty salary the team might have to make a difficult decision or two.
One of those decisions might be letting go of defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, who according to Rich Cimini of ESPN, “his roster spot is vulnerable because of a $16.4 million cap charge” and that Franklin-Myers “could be the odd man out.”

Franklin-Myers has been a valued rotational piece for the Jets for four years and has posted 17.5 sacks over that time and has two years left on the 4-year, $55 million deal he signed with the team in 2021.
Reddick has 50.5 sacks over the past four years and has been one of the most consistently effective pass rushers in the league during that time.
Franklin-Myers is the most obvious cut candidate for the Jets, who are now around $2 million over the cap.
He has the third-highest cap hit on the team at $16.3 million, while other possible cut candidates could be finding a way to get rid of Zach Wilson and having another team take on his $11 million in a trade, or cutting D.J. Reed, which is unlikely due to him being a vital member of the secondary.
The team is also only one year into Allen Lazard’s brutal contract and doesn’t have an easy out until next year.
