There was a point in Carson Wentz’s career when he seemed to be a lock for the MVP award.
Things were going great for him and the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 season, but his ACL tear cut his MVP run short.
He did come back and play well for the Eagles in 2018 and 2019, but after his suboptimal year in 2020, the team started to have their doubts.
They eventually benched Wentz for Jalen Hurts, and the rest is history.
Wentz has been on a new team every year after being benched, unable to regain his footing as a starter.
As Adam Schefter has recently reported, Wentz has signed a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, becoming Patrick Mahomes’ backup.

Unless Mahomes misses any time in the 2024 season, Wentz will likely not see any playing time next season, relegating him to a backup role.
While this isn’t necessarily the most positive move for Wentz in terms of a path to starting for an NFL franchise, it is a chance for him to spend time with a winning organization.
He won a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles despite his ACL injury, and with the Chiefs winning the last two Super Bowls, being on this team could give him a chance to add another ring to his trophy case.
It will be interesting to see how Wentz handles the backup role in Kansas City, especially since Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
With any luck, Wentz will see this as a great opportunity to learn, grow, and develop, perhaps honing his skills for his next destination.
