It has been a strange offseason in Minnesota, as the Vikings are picking up the pieces after losing quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons.
The losses on offense haven’t stopped there, as a strange and disappointing story that happened recently has forced the front office to take action.
The Vikings announced today, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, that offensive coordinator Wes Phillips has been suspended for three weeks without pay following the legal resolution of a 2023 traffic stop.

Phillips’ suspension will conclude on April 22 when he will be allowed to rejoin the team in full capacity.
Phillips joined the Vikings staff in 2022 and the incident in question occurred on December 8, when he was stopped on the highway at while showing signs of visual impairment.
It’s poor timing, as the suspension will take Phillips out during a key part of the year with the Vikings in the midst of preparing for the NFL Draft in a year where the team has two first-round picks and a gaping hole at quarterback in a loaded draft class.
The Vikings have been rumored to be looking to trade up for a quarterback, with UNC’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy all serving as potential targets.
The team will now have to do its homework on that situation without its offensive coordinator.
