Free agency throughout the NFL is mostly over after opening up around three weeks ago, and there have been a couple of teams that have been conspicuously quiet.
While the New England Patriots have signed a couple of players, by and large, they’re still saddled with the same roster that won them just four games last season.
The only big changes have come at head coach (Jerod Mayo), offensive coordinator (Alex Van Pelt), defensive coordinator (DeMarcus Covington) and director of scouting/de facto general manager (Eliot Wolf), but player-wise, they look much the same as they did in 2023.
Nick Wright said on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that, at least so far, New England’s offseason has been a “disaster.”

The Bill Belichick era is officially over for New England, and the team went through a miserable season in the likes of which it hadn’t experienced in decades during Belichick’s final go-around on the sideline.
They have many needs, beginning at the quarterback position, where it is clear that Mac Jones probably wouldn’t develop into a franchise-caliber signal-caller.
But they also need some legitimate playmakers on offense, and they failed to get any in free agency.
The Patriots were looking to sign wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, but he instead decided to head to the Tennessee Titans.
Their leading wideout last season was Demario Douglas, who had a modest 561 yards and didn’t score a single touchdown.
New England will have the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft, and there are rumors they may take QB J.J. McCarthy instead of Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, which Wright compared to drafting Jones in 2021.
