The Detroit Lions were one of the most surprising teams in the NFL during the 2023 season.
After years of trying to gain a foothold in the NFC North, the team put everything together and won the division for the first time.
They didn’t stop there, making it all the way to the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers.
Making it to the NFC title game was certainly an accomplishment for this team, but that is not their goal in 2024 and beyond.
The Lions are going to do everything possible to reach the Super Bowl this year, as evidenced by their offseason additions.
They added D.J. Reader to their defensive line, which should be a big help to an already strong unit.
After he left the Cincinnati Bengals to join the Lions, Reader appeared on The Jim Rome Show to discuss his next move.
Reader said, “I don’t see any setbacks keeping me from being able to be right back where I was and the player I was. When I’m out there playing, I’m one of the top three players at my position.”

Reader has struggled with some injuries lately that have kept him off the field in big games.
As he mentioned on Rome’s show, he doesn’t feel like that will be the case in 2024, as he is feeling good and ready to go.
While this might be the case, if any of his injuries are nagging or looming in the background, it might not be as smooth of sailing as he anticipates.
Only time will tell what Reader can do for an emerging Lions squad.
