The 2024 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and that means someone is about to make a mistake.
Every single year, teams reach to get a promising player who fails to live up to the hype, either because he’s put in a bad situation or because he wasn’t as good as scouts originally thought.
Other times, a guy who wasn’t expected to be that good winds up outplaying those who went ahead of him, proving the doubters wrong.
This time, it seems like the jury will be out on JJ McCarthy from the very second he’s taken in the draft.
He’s now projected to be a top-five pick, with ESPN analyst Kimberley Martin stating that it’s not a matter of if he’ll be a top-five pick as much as it is a matter of who’s going to take him.
Talking on Get Up, she stated that the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, and New York Giants are all keeping tabs on him.

Obviously, the Patriots are in a privileged position to get him, as they currently hold the No. 3 pick, while the Vikings and Giants would have to trade up.
The Patriots were originally expected to go after either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, so having them go with McCarthy would leave the door open for Daniels or Maye to be available at No. 6, as the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers won’t be taking a quarterback.
That sets the table for the Giants to have their next franchise quarterback fall right into their laps, assuming the Vikings are unable to move up in the first round.
