The Denver Broncos will be on the clock in the middle of the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.
They have been linked to J.J. McCarthy over the past couple of weeks, but with the Michigan product being a quick riser on most boards, he might not be available for them.
So, with Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye also out of the question, they might have to dig deep in the quarterback market to get their next guy.
Fortunately for them, Washington standout Michael Penix Jr. might be available by the time they’re on the clock.
Moreover, he already met with them, according to Broncos reporter Mike Klis.
Klis reports that Penix has gained plenty of momentum since his Pro Day workout last week, and even though he comes with injury concerns, he’s been healthy in the two years he was in Washington, where he combined for 9,544 passing yards and 67 touchdowns.

Notably, the only two things that made Penix fall on the draft boards were his health issues and his age.
Then again, he’s perhaps the best pocket passer in his class, and he showed an impressive ability to connect on deep throws as well.
He was more efficient operating between the tackles as opposed to scrambling, and that also helped him stay healthy during his tenure.
He might not have as much upside as other prospects because of his age, but he could also be more NFL-ready, and he’d be worth the risk.
