At one point in time, Marcus Mariota was considered to be potentially the next big thing in the NFL, as he seemed to be a talented dual-threat quarterback who might be able to become a superstar on the professional level.
Unfortunately, Mariota was never able to reach his true potential on the NFL level as he struggled to make a name for himself with the Tennessee Titans and has bounced around the league ever since, with short stints with the Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and Philadelphia Eagles.
After being Jalen Hurts’ backup during the 2023 NFL season in Philadelphia, Mariota is once again on the move as he agreed to sign with the Washington Commanders to presumably be the Week 1 starter ahead of whatever rookie quarterback the team chooses to bring in through the 2024 NFL Draft.
Along with potentially getting another shot to be a starter in the NFL, Mariota will be the first quarterback in league history to wear No. 0 next season, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

The NFL only recently allowed for players in the league to be able to wear No. 0, and it became a popular choice for many players during the 2023 campaign, but Mariota will be the first to wear the number at his position, and that could also become a trend in the years to come.
With the Commanders expected to take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, it remains to be seen if the veteran quarterback will be able to debut his new number on the field, as he’ll almost certainly have to beat out a talented young rookie in training camp.
