The Atlanta Falcons felt like they were knocking on the door of contention.
They knew they had to spend big to win big, and that’s why they went after the best available quarterback in free agency.
Kirk Cousins could take this offense to a whole new level, not only as a significant improvement at the most crucial position in the game but also as a veteran and strong voice in the locker room.
Notably, Falcons owner Arthur Blank revealed that he’s already hit the ground running, claiming that the quarterback has probably reached out to every single one of his teammates already (via SiriusXM NFL Radio).
“He’s probably called every player on our roster….”

Those little details can make a big difference.
The Falcons are coming off consecutive seven-win seasons.
Their defense was much better last season, and should only get better with a defensive-minded coach like Raheem Morris.
Their offensive talent, however, seemed misused.
Cousins will have an outstanding supporting cast with Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London, and he’s already shown what he can do with two solid pass-catchers and an established running back.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have dominated the NFC South with almost no opposition for quite a while now, but the table is set for the Falcons to reclaim divisional supremacy.
And while Cousins isn’t getting any younger and could need some time to get his legs back under him after his season-ending injury, it wouldn’t be shocking to see this team going deep into the playoffs as early as next season.
